Dell Technologies truly walks the walk when it comes to Diversity and Inclusion. I see the positive difference that this makes at the workplace every single day.

As a Security Lead, I wanted to emulate the same values in my organization. That’s when I got the idea of handing over the responsibility of managing one of our new Dell office premises in Bangalore to a highly capable, all-women security staff. Women do so much to keep us and our families safe at home, so why not our office premises? My decision was met with a lot of trepidation. But, the highly motivated team of women that I put together for this gave me a load of confidence.

We jumped right in and started to equip the team with all the required training /skills to handle the entire security operations for the site. We covered every aspect of security and safety over a 45-day period. At the end of the training period, I asked the team if they were ready to work with me towards making a true change in how women are perceived in the security industry and heard a resounding “YES”! I feel very proud of what we have been able to achieve. Whether it is patrolling, material management, security checks using the latest technologies in baggage scanners, handheld metal detectors, investigations, or reception handling – everything is done by these powerful women.

Diversity in the workplace promotes creativity, and the security industry, perhaps more than most, needs creative people. When we challenge prevailing opinions on operational requirements, we innovate and initiate change. All it takes is for one person to give someone the opportunity to facilitate this change. Kudos to security personnel everywhere for your dedication and courage! We all feel just a little bit safer in this world because of you.
